Location is one of the most important data for companies like Facebook. This information will be used by these companies to understand their users better. They can track their customer’s interest based on the demographics data. These days, almost all the android apps are seeking for this data to use their services. So if you are looking for a simple way to view your location history on Facebook, you are in the right place.
What we’ll cover in this guide:
View location history on Facebook app
Delete or Turn off the location history if you don’t want the location to be tracked
If you are using Android version 10, then you will have a provision to set the location service to ‘Allow all the time‘ or ‘Allow only when using the app‘ or you can even deny location service for certain apps. This location service is used by Facebook to tag your location for the post, to get nearby friends’ data and get you relevant ads based on your location.
All this location history is being tracked and stored on the Facebook platform for better analytics. If you don’t want this app to track, you need to turn off or deny the location service permission for Facebook.
So without much ado, Let’s jump into our step by step guide on How to view location history on Facebook app.
View Location History on Facebook:
Step 1: Open a web browser on your laptop and go to the Facebook website.
Step 2: Sign in with your Facebook account credentials where you want to see location history.
Step 3: Now click on the down arrow at the top right corner of the screen to get the Settings option. Refer to the screenshot below.
Step 4: Choose the Location option from the left side menu.
Step 5: Now, on the next screen, tap on the View Location History button.
Step 6: As this is confidential data, Facebook requires you to enter your password. Just enter the same account password and hit the Continue button.
Step 7: Change the date for which you want to view the location using the left and right arrows and the places will be reflected on the map.
Note that this location history data is private and you can delete it anytime you want. Just change the date to reflect the locations and then click on the delete button to permanently delete the location information from the Facebook location history tracker.
We can also disable the location track itself. Here is the step by step guide if you want to disable location tracking on Facebook app.
Disable Location Tracking on Facebook:
If the location service is turned off, Facebook can’t track your location even if the Track location is enabled in the Facebook app. Also, you may not avail location-specific features like Tagging the location for a post, near-by friends, nearby Wi-Fi, geo-targeted ads, etc.
You can disable location tracking at two levels. One is turning off the location service for the Facebook app and the other one is to change the setting on Facebook to stop adding your location to location history.
Open the Facebook app on a web browser
Log-in with valid username and password
Go to Settings by clicking on the down arrow at the top right corner of the Facebook site.
Now choose the Location setting from the left side menu.
Tap on the edit button beside the Location History option and set it to off.
Done. From now on, your location information will not be added to the Facebook location history anymore. You can change this setting anytime you want. You can also delete the previously recorded locations on the Location history.
Location can be tracked only from mobile devices. If you are using the Facebook app on your Android or iOS mobile, then most probably you are sharing your location information with Facebook. Android 10 comes up with an extraordinary feature to allow location only when using the app. This can help us to reduce the background battery consumption as well.
We’ve covered How to view location history on Facebook and how to delete it. Also, if you don’t want to share location information with Facebook, you can always turn off the location service to this app. This will not add any new locations to their location history.
